Regarded from a close perspective difficult enterprises are seen as impossible, the likely obstacles are taken for granted and eventual benefits are considered or even disregarded as chimerical. Though once they are carried out, very much so against tide and wind, and after a good score – a tenth - of years from the first edition of this event we allow ourselves to analyze the Patagonia Cup with the sureness provided by the observation of what have really happened.

The first positive result is that the participation of thirty six local and international teams since 1999 has allowed nine hundred young players the chance to play rugby at international level.

On the other side the local refs have been given the opportunity to exchange opinions with refs from Australia, South Africa and New Zealand which has helped them to have a different vision, more agile and dynamic, of refereeing with the benefit of raising the level of the game of rugby in our region.

During the ten years and three months that have elapsed since the inception of the Patagonia Cup, often under economic conditions, national and international, of utter uncertainty and realities, of our own and alien, more urging, tough and despairing, we have persevered maybe a bit more than prudence would advice but we have done so with the inner conviction of knowing that the effort and the risks were worthwhile the pains.

We are proud to name the foreign teams who have honored us with their visit, and first of all we need to remark the Christchurch High School Old Boys team from New Zealand coming back for the sixth time to the Patagonia Cup leaded by the legend, Mr. Ken Pope (Popey). Australia has been represented four times, twice by Brothers Old Boys RFC in 2003 and 2005, Southern Districts RFC in 2003 and Sydney University RC in 2010, while the teams from South Africa have been Durban Falcons RFC and Old Boys' RFC.

Our policy has been to honor the pledge of one's word, the fulfillment of obligations, the consistency with decisions once they were taken, the continuity of a serious, formal and constant communication, and the organization each time in a more professional way of the Patagonia Cup. The result is the prestige we have earned in such countries as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, achieved with nothing else but the time invested and the constancy dedicated to the enterprise.

From 2010 onwards the Patagonia Cup will be a Rugby & Hockey event and therefore we think of hosting hockey teams from the countries with which we have built such a solid friendship over the years. In this first joint edition we would like to particularly thank Olivos and River Plate clubs from Buenos Aires for having accepted our invitation to be part of the Patagonia Cup.

During the next eight days we will enjoy a big party and we must say thanks to the local, national and international clubs for the extraordinary effort they do to participate and to the commercial firms for their support, with a particular mention to the Municipalidad de Bahía Blanca, Coca Cola Polar Argentina S.A. , Grupo Sancor and Arias Hnos. S.A. Seguros. Without the support of all of them the Patagonia Cup would have been just a dreamers' chimera.
